What a horrid way to start the week.

This morning, we all woke up to the tragic news that hundreds of innocent concertgoers in Las Vegas were shot by a sick, twisted gunman standing 32 stories up at the Mandalay Bay Hotel. The gunman was 64 year old Stephan Paddock, a multi-millionaire real estate mogul who had no prior convictions. He had ten semi-automatic weapons with him and a total of 34 weapons between his room at the hotel and at his home in upstate Nevada.

There's no known motive as to why Paddock opened fire at the country music festival, loaded with 22,000 concertgoers. Country superstar Jason Aldean, the night's headliner was performing when the shots were being fired by Paddock from his hotel room.

As of tonight, 59 people are dead and 527 have been injured from the shooting. It is now the deadliest shooting in modern history. To make matters worse, it comes one year after the Orlando nightclub shooting that had that same record.

While the sale of automatic weapons have been banned, the sale of semi-automatic weapons is OK in some states, including Nevada. Two of Paddock's weapons were converted to automatic weapons by changing the stock. Now, the question is, when will this stop?

The tragedy is, is that as long as the NRA keeps buying our politicians - Drumpf included - we won't see many changes in the current gun laws in this country. Interestingly enough, Paddock's father dealt with psychotic issues, so one would wonder if he himself inherited those problems.

I think we're long overdue to fix the wrongs this country has with guns. We need to ban all guns that have the intent to kill humans, including semi-automatic weapons. We also need better care for those with mental issues.

But, that's the problem: the NRA is too big and too powerful and as long as we have three Republican-led sectors of the government, nobody will fight against them. Even worse, many country music fans are also very conservative and pro-gun.

Sadly, but hopefully, it will take this tragedy to make them change their minds.
