---Looks like the Donald won't be allowed to phone it in anymore.

Literally.

Yesterday, it was announced that both NBC's Meet the Press and Fox News Sunday will no longer allow Trump to call in those shows. He had been a weekly regular on the Sunday morning shows via phone, a privilege he had enjoyed since he's a busy man. But since other candidates have been forced to physically appear on those shows, it was simply unfair to them.

Let's face it: the media wants this to be a Trump/Clinton race. Trump has name brand recognition and so does Clinton. Plus, both tend to be quite moderate. But since Trump has been attracting the type of voter that everyday people simply don't want to see at the polls, maybe it is a great idea for the networks to realize that if this man is elected president, the country will turn into one giant episode of The Jerry Springer Show. Trump has been on the Sunday morning circuit 63 times, 28 of them via phone.

You know, I'm happy that Bernie won two out of three states in this week's primaries. If he wins California, it's a giant spit in the face for Hillary. True, if he loses, I might still vote for her since I don't want Trump to be my president.

The media needs to leave Donald alone. The more press he gets, the better it is for him and his war-loving followers. Maybe this is why I like CBS News Sunday Morning a lot better than most of the political chat fests. At least with Charles Osgood, you learn something.

But with Meet the Press, you learn that the show's announcer is the dude from the Allstate commercials.

Bee-otched For: helping to cause the Brussels massacre

---
Yesterday was supposed to be a normal day in Belgium. But it all ended in a few blasts.

Over 30 people have died in the explosions that rocked Brussels' airport and subway system. Like the Paris attacks that happened several months ago, people pointed their fingers at Isis, and the terrorist group accepted responsibility.

When the news broke out yesterday, I thought to myself, "how come the media doesn't mention how Isis was even created?" Simple: maybe it's because I watch NBC News and Dubya's bitch ass ho daughter Jenna is one of their correspondents.

You know, it's sad that the asshole who invaded Iraq and made us the most-hated country in the world is still a free man, living on his compound in Texas while the world is still wiping his ass for all the bullshit he created. There's a lot of right-wingers who beg Obama to go into war with Isis, but we all know the answer: war kills even more people.

Iraq was a nice, peaceful nation before our boots started stomping on the ground over oil. Bush used our own atrocity, 9/11 as an excuse to go over there to fight for oil. Saddam was the bad guy with all the WMD, even though there wasn't any.

All those years and trillions of dollars later, this is what happens. Paris has been attacked twice and now, it's Brussels' turn. When will it end? Will 43 end up in prison where he belongs? Unless Bernie Sanders becomes president, I doubt it. But, anything can happen.

But until then, the only answer to life's problems is simply don't vote Republican.

Bee-otched For: comparing Bernie Sanders to Hitler

---
It's amazing that for some people, jail just isn't enough.

That's the situation for Jim Bakker, the televangelist whose PTL ministry collapsed in the late 1980s amid scandal. He ended up going to jail for several years for tax evasion but somehow found a way back on TV in the early 2000s.

He now does his show from a building that resembles his Heritage USA in Branson, MO, the town that's like Las Vegas only if it were designed by Ned Flanders. Well, he uses his airtime to trash politicians and kiss the asses of others, like Donald Trump. On a recent broadcast, Bakker claimed that yes, Drumpf uses "salty language", but compared him to Truman since he supported Israel.

Now, he's attacking Bernie Sanders to 0f all people, Hitler. Yes, a man who hated the Jews while Bernie himself is, surprise, surprise, Jewish himself. On his show, Bakker claimed that because Sanders is a "socialist" in his words, he shares the same ideals as Hitler and the Nazis, who killed tens of millions of Jews. Bakker claimed that it will only take a few bombs to destroy America because of Bernie's ideals.

Meanwhile, Bakker uses his broadcasts to promote his stupid food buckets just in case this fine world were to come to an end. In the video posted above, the graphic claims that for the low, low price of $165 (or more), you can get a 90-day bucket of grub and a 50-day bucket "for starving Christians".

Oh, did I read that Bakker still owes the IRS $6 million? S. M. H.

Look, I'm a Christian. I go to a church that doesn't preach that the sky is falling and we all must give or else God will push his wrath unto us. Instead, they preach the things God wants us to learn, like love and accepting those who are different. Hell, one of the people I joined the church with just happens to be a Fox News-watching conservative, even though my church is very liberal. If that's the road he wants to take, fine. I will accept that. But the thing is, there's a lot of churches that are like Bakker's and they should be taxed to the hilt.

Remember, folks, there's a reason why these people are still around, and it's because there's morons who give them money. If you know any of them, tell them to stop. Jim Bakker is a sicko for what he did to millions of people 30-odd years ago and it's sad that he's pulling the same shit again.

Here's three words for 'ol Jimbo: FEEL THE BERN!

Name: Rick Snyder
Age: 57
Occupation: idiot governor
Last Seen: Ann Arbor, MI
Bee-otched For: being the most-hated governor in America

---When the man-made disaster you've created causes Congress to hold meetings on your bullshit and it's the top story on the NBC Nightly News, well, congratulations, you're pretty much the Antichrist.

Last week, the Nerd visited Capitol Hill and a crap ton of Congresspeople - Republican and Democrat - all begged Rick Snyder to resign from being the governor of Michigan. Of course, Snyder won't because in his mind, he can solve the Flint water crisis.

Even 10-year-olds are smart enough to know that Snyder is one lying asshole.

Also last week, there was a special episode of The Steve Harvey Show where he had an audience of all people of Flint. Most of them were very angry at Snyder and the synopsis was simply that he needed to resign or even go to jail. His stupidity left thousands of people in that city without reliable water and thousands of young children poisoned. I'll betcha that in the next few years, Flint will have to invest millions into special ed since most of the poisoned kids will have at least some form of mental retardation.

I applaud Steve for that special episode. Otherwise, I view his daytime show as a male Oprah wannabe with old yentas making up the majority of his audience.

Yesterday when I was baptized, my aunt took me out to lunch. There, she revealed that her old job at the Grand Rapids Home For Veterans had been eliminated and she had to be demoted with a pay cut. She claims that she might even have to work weekends for the first time in years. Snyder and his cronies have done a number on the home by busting unions and hiring scabs.

This is what happens when we have a beancounter running the show. Snyder imploded a popular computer company and now, he's doing the same to Michigan. Look at John Engler: this asshole cheated on his wife and ended up having triplets with his mistress. He led this state into a deficit and poor Jennifer Granholm spent eight years wiping his - and Dubya's - asses. She got blamed for EVERYTHING the Republicans did and it led our state to voting in the Nerd. I even remember my childhood paper, the Traverse City Record-Eagle endorsing Snyder by saying that our state had nothing to lose with him. Yeah, like seeing a town with 100,000 people without drinkable water, many cities seeing their mayors and elected council members getting broomed aside by Uncle Toms as "Emergency Managers" and let's not forget the fact that union jobs have disappeared thanks to Snyder and the fact that he's simply a puppet for the Devos family.

All I can say is that in the next few years, Flint will be a ghost town.

This Sunday, I am going to do something I thought I would never do years ago.

The reason why I thought I would never do what I'm going to do is simply because I just wasn't a church person. I avoided church like the Bubonic Plague. The reason goes back to when I was a kid.

When I was young, I went to church on Sundays with my mom. I was in Sunday School but we stopped going. After my parents' divorce when I was 12, My Dad finally decided to go to church himself and I went with him. But then we stopped again.

A few years passed and my Dad was upset about not having a true soulmate. Then, one day on his school bus route, he dropped off three new kids. Their father was there waiting for them and he introduced himself to him. He told the kids' father that he was divorced and he recommended his church to him and me. We went on a Sunday and we were impressed by the church's huge size. It was the biggest church in northern Michigan.

New Hope Community Church started in a man's house near Traverse City in 1990. A few months later, it relocated to the gymnasium of Mill Creek Elementary School in Williamsburg where it remained for six years. They moved to their current locale in 1996. Needless to say, it was poised to become northern Michigan's first true megachurch. When my Dad and I came, we immediately met a ton of new people and we ended up having our own ministries. I joined the youth group and Dad joined the singles ministry where he met a nice woman his age who was very attractive and athletic. Things were cool and groovy for a while, but then the bottom dropped out.

In my Dad's case, he got tired of how his singles ministry leaders were treating him, telling him not to re-marry and doing crazy things like not dancing when the group was at a club. Even worse, his girlfriend - the one he met at church - started cheating on him. Even I started having problems in youth group. Originally, it was one big mess of middle and high schoolers playing dodgeball followed by the youth pastor, John Clark - now the lead pastor at West Side Community Church - giving out a message. Well, the youth ministry got so big that they decided to split the middle and high schoolers. The 6-8th graders still got smacked with dodgeballs while the 10-12th graders went into small groups (the freshmen got to choose where they wanted to go). I HATED the small groups. The reason was because a lot of the time, my small group leader asked VERY personal questions, like "how often do you think about sex?" with my other small group mates - some of them classmates of mine - staring down at me. Practically each week, Clark would tell us BS that sex is bad for you and watching MTV was bad for you and yadda yadda yadda.

Oh, and I missed the infamous Detroit Red Wings-Colorado Avalanche bloodbath for that. S.M.H.

But then, the shoe fell.

A little over a year after Dad and I attended our first service at New Hope, pastor David Standfest started telling us that it was time for the church's next phase in becoming even bigger. He then unleashed "Untie the Colt" Sunday, which he wanted the whole congregation to donate a whopping $1.7 million to expand the church. The money would go to build a new 1,700-seat auditorium. Two businessmen - one owned a hardware store chain and another owned a restaurant - even sold their businesses to help with the project. Standfest persuaded his flock to sell their properties to expand the church. Some - like my Dad - were pissed. He told me one Sunday that it's stupid that here he is, going on lots of vacations, living in a nice house and putting his kids in nice, private schools and yet he's begging for money. Standfest even used Bible verses to promote his little prosperity gospel. Funny, since the restaurant owner died last year at the age of 60. So much for a nice, long life.

Well, Standfest got his wish and actually raised a little over $2 million for the project. That's $2 million that didn't feed the hungry, clothed the naked or helped somebody with cancer pay their medical bills. Not long after Colt Sunday, his wife passed and he moved to Grand Rapids and started another New Hope Community Church, this time at the Wave Room at Celebration! Cinema North. According to their website, they believe in having a small group in worship. We'll see how long that lasts.

Dad and I tried a few more churches after New Hope to no good avail. We did like one church, but it was too far away. However, sometimes, people would come up to us and ask why we left. "Oh, we wanted to try something else" would be my common answer. My last church service was at a sad little Pentecostal church that was in what looked like a portable classroom in Mancelona that a former ex-girlfriend attended.

For years, I loathed ALL organized religion. Too many scandals, too much misused money, too much ego. The fact that I ended up working for a Christian company that paid me a shitty wage for 10 1/2 years while my boss lived a extravagant life deepened my hatred even more. You asked me to attend your church and I would say no. Hell, I'd rather go to the strip club vs. a church since you don't see too many strippers flying around in $70 million jets.

Years ago, I heard about a church that's pretty much the opposite of what a lot of megachurches are doing. Many of their congregations are small, nonjudgmental and don't throw you into a guilt trip. I started attending last June and loved it. Hymns instead of sugar-coated contemporary crap that's the same eight verses over and over, an organist and a choir instead of a cheesy band and a pastor who makes a reasonable salary and not too much for his own good. Now, I'm going to get an official Baptism on Sunday. I was sorta Baptized when I was little, but it involved a pastor touching my head with a rose and no water. Of course, ya gotta have water for a Baptism.

You see, not all churches are bad. This one I attend is truly has a come as you are atmosphere. Instead of investing in a sanctuary that seats the same as an arena, they've kept it simple. The only major expense they've had since I started attending was when they installed solar panels. Yes, my church cares about the environment. They've even told their parishioners about the importance of water and to hold up those suffering in Flint. They've even used their basement to help house the homeless. Oh, and they're LGBT-friendly.

Folks, THAT'S WHAT CHURCHES NEED TO DO!  They don't need jet planes, huge mansions and the so-called prosperity gospel to survive. All they need is the truth and they will succeed. That's what brought me to this particular church. And as long as they don't sell out, I plan to stay.

And that's what Jesus would do.

A long, long time ago, radio used to belong to the people.

In the 1950s, the government ruled that the airwaves belonged to the people. In other words, if somebody made a viewpoint on TV, somebody had the right to counter that person's point. Usually, these editorials were made during newscasts and when stations signed off at night. Oh, and 1977-78 episodes of Saturday Night Live where conservative Dan Aykroyd lovingly called liberal Jane Curtin a slut during Weekend Update.

Of course, all that came to a crashing halt in 1987 when the FCC shitcanned the Fairness Doctrine, allowing Rupert Murdoch, Rush Limbaugh and other passengers in the Republican clown car unlimited airtime. Things even got worse when President Clinton and house speaker Newt Gingrich both agreed on the Telecommunications Act of 1996, allowing broadcasters more unlimited ownership of radio and TV stations. Clear Channel, Cumulus, CBS and others started swallowing up radio and TV stations by the armload, even paying top dollar for stations that were far, far away from any city of high population.

Twenty years later, they're paying the price.

In the case of the company formerly known as Clear Channel, iHeartMedia, their creditors have now told the company to pony up $6 billion within a little less than 60 days or else things could get very, very ugly. The company's current debt is valued at around $21 billion. Things only got worse for the ailing media giant when three years ago, advertisers for their popular Rush Limbaugh program pulled after the bloated pill-popper called the highly-educated Sandra Fluke a slut on the air. Of course, unlike Dan Aykroyd, Rush Limbaugh is anything but funny.

But that's not all. Cumulus Media is also in trouble. It's been revealed that the company is now $2.5 billion in debt, too. A lot of it is due to the company's investments in unpopular formats such as the nationwide Nash network and unpopular jocks such as west Michigan's "Huge" Bill Simonson. Not to mention how they killed the popular Oldies format on WHNN 96.1 in the Tri Cities here in Michigan for an AC format that might be lucky to hit a two share.

So far, the only wise people in radio seem to be CBS. They've announced that they are planning to sell some of their stations and they've recently put the legendary WNEW call letters back on 102.7 in New York, currently ho-hum AC outlet Fresh 102.7. It might put some speculation that 102.7 might return to rock, a format sorely missed in the Big Apple. Then again, CBS has done a yeoman's job of killing their rock stations one by one and replacing them with wither Sports or CHR.

If there's one person who should be laughing at all this, it's Howard Stern. Clear Channel canned him on all of their stations in 2004 after the accidental Janet Jackson Super Bowl nip slip and Cumulus also got rid of his show on all the stations they bought around 2000. One station, Toledo's Buzz 106.5 never recovered in the ratings. Then again, so did many other ex-Stern stations.

You know, radio should be about the listener, not what the owners want. This is why people listen to Pandora, Sirius and other alternative radio services these days. If radio wants to survive, they need to listen to the listener. Stations need to look at ratings and audience reactions, not pull shit out of their asses. Maybe if Clear Channel and Cumulus knew what the people wanted, they wouldn't be billions in debt.

And who's the sluts now?

If you have a kid in school, your worst nightmare could be if your little one was in a bus accident.

That's what happened near Mancelona, MI last week when a bus carrying a dozen students apparently sped around the corner and fell on its side. The bus driver and a fellow student were sent to the hospital with minor injuries. For the ten other students on board, it will be traumatizing for them for the rest of their lives.

The driver, Ronald Davis has been put on administrative leave as the Mancelona Public School district does their own investigation. There was no snow on the road and there were no potholes, either.

As a native northern Michigander, it made me a little more proud that I never went to school in the town many call "Manceltucky" for many good reasons.

My mother worked in the hellhole of 1,400 souls at the machine shop her drunk in-laws own. Her co-workers were nothing short of weird. One co-worker lived in a house that used an old kerosene lamp for heat. Another lived in a trailer with another trailer in the backyard with its roof caved in. Even worse, he couldn't drive because he had way too many DUIs against him and one time, I was at his place and he had an envelope from The 700 Club sitting on his table. The asshole can give money to already-wealthy Pat Robertson but doesn't have the $$$ to buy a nicer house. Oh, and according to my mother, when the shop was watching the planes hitting the World Trade Center on 9/11, he was laughing hysterically.

Yes, that's your typical Manceltuckian: dumb, dimwitted white trash. They put the 'ick' in "hick", so to speak.

Also, my mother - despite having a Bellaire address - was technically in the Mancelona Public School system. When she and her now-ex-husband gained custody of his two kids, she would NOT allow them to attend Mancelona schools. For one, the teenage pregnancy rate is high. I remembered when I graduated from Elk Rapids High School in 2000, there was something like ten pregnant girls in Mancelona's graduating class that year vs. only one in ER. Also, Mancelona's old high school was partly condemned for years. True, they've since demolished that school and built a new one, their schools have some of the lowest MEAP scores of any school in the area.

I remembered hearing years ago when a block of downtown Mancelona burned down, longtime 106 KHQ morning man "The Captain" Bill Vogel cracked that the fire caused $37 worth of damage. Needless to say, the local yokels were pissed and Vogel apologized. Downtown Mancelona resembled a Detroit block for years with buildings that were boarded up for decades. Of course, they tore many of them down years ago. But revitalization or not, Mancelona is a shithole and a half.

When I heard about the bus incident, it made me think about my Dad. He was a bus driver in Elk Rapids for 23 years. He realized that every kid who entered his bus was precious cargo. He only had a few minor incidents, such as backing into two cars, but overall, he was one of the district's best and most popular drivers. That, sadly can't be said about Ronald Davis nor Mancelona Public Schools in particular.

I have a million Mancelona stories. The more I think about that shitty town, the more I appreciate Grand Rapids more. Yes, there's a few assholes with low IQs - especially black folks who use 28th Street as their own personal crosswalk - but at least there's no trailers with its roof caved in. I hope the next time I go to northern Michigan, I don't end up in Manceltucky. Besides, the cops tend to follow you around and pull you over for bullshit reasons.

Maybe it's the contaminated water Dura left behind.

This past weekend proved that if Donald Trump is ever elected president, this country will turn into one giant episode of The Jerry Springer Show.

Protests have rocked Trump's campaign stops and it seems that Trump is the king of the phrase "go back to _____". And as of late, the blank is filled with "Bernie".

On Friday, his campaign stop in Chicago was postponed because of protests. Bernie Sanders' campaign claimed victory on that one. Last week at another stop, Trump's security let out a black man who was then assaulted by 78-year-old John McGraw. Trump claims that he will help pay McGraw's legal bills. And there was the incident in Ohio when a man threatened to attack Trump on stage, but ended up being the Secret Security's bitch.

The truth is that Trump is going after racists in his campaign for president. His target is all those who hate the fact that we have had a black president for seven years even though the economy has dramatically improved under him. If Trump is elected, this will be the rebirth of the KKK. Nothing more than a rich white man exploiting the old angry racists for votes and if he's elected, then he's gonna be Dubya's third term.

November seems so far away....

Yesterday, the people of Michigan celebrated as a man the media loves to refer to as the underdog in the Democratic primaries defeated the Pantsuit.

Bernie Sanders defeated Hillary Clinton 50% to 48%, shocking virtually everybody, especially the media that reported that Hillary was the favorite by a huge margin. But, the voters came out in droves to quiet their biased asses.

Yes, the media is truly eating crow over the fact that they claimed that Hillary was the favorite to win. After all, when Hillary and Bernie finished a debate on CNN, social media reported that Bernie won. But CNN themselves stepped in and cried that Hillary won. The reason? Their parent, TimeWarner is a huge donor to Clinton. Even MSNBC censored one of Bernie's speeches simply because he started talking about the Pipeline, which parent Comcast supports.

But seriously, folks, this is Michigan.

Our state has been spat on and shat on for decades. Flint and Detroit were huge epicenters for the automobile industry, but greed, Japan and union busting killed it. Hell, you can't even drink water in Flint anymore. Our state - once a union powerhouse - is now a Right-to-Work for less state thanks to our idiot beancounter governor and his pals the Devos family.

This is why Bernie won, folks. True, it was a close race, but people want a man who is a true Democrat. Somebody whose FDR-style ideals will return this country back to what it was until assholes like Ronald Reagan and the Bushes took over and ruined the tax code and spat on the 1% in the process. True, Hillary is still in the lead nationally, but I hope that Michigan will give the country the wake-up call this election needs. True, Bernie is an old man, but hey, unlike the Pantsuit, he actually campaigned in northern Michigan. Have the Clintons ever visited Traverse City or even know where it is on a map? Doubt it.

With many more states to go, I hope people will really start to Feel the Bern.

If you wanted to go to the Eastland Mall in Harper Woods near Detroit on Saturday, you would have to stand through some crowds and near rioting.

All over a fucking pair of shoes.

A lot of commotion was over the latest pair of Air Jordan shoes sold at the Kids Foot Locker, which sold for $140. The mall had to be closed twice over security concerns.

Meanwhile in Minnesota, two people were shot in the parking lot of a Foot Locker over another pair of Air Jordans, priced at $190.

When I was young, I heard lots of stories of young kids and teens getting shot over Air Jordans and Reebok Pumps. I even begged my mother to buy me Pumps, but instead, she dragged me to Kmart. Yes, I was teased for wearing dopey-ass fake shoes that only lasted three months at a time, but at least I'm still alive and at least my poor old mother didn't have to contribute to the problems leading to the shootings.

You see, Nike's founder and chairman, Phil Knight is worth $28 BILLION. Michael Jordan is worth $1.1 billion. The people who clamored over to Foot Locker for $140 pairs of shoes are hardly worth a dime. I'll betcha that some of those folks used government assistance just to buy those shoes. Even more, Nike has no factories in America, which adds on to the poverty of these people.

There's that part of me that says that Phil Knight is a slave owner and the likes of Michael Jordan and LeBron James are his Uncle Toms. If there's any violence among the people who buy his shoes, it means more promotion for his little company. Because of that, you'll never see a pair of Nikes slapped on my feet. New Balance, on the other hand, has factories in America and I recently had a pair that lasted over a year.

And so far, I've never been shot over those.

3.8.16 Bee-otches of the Day: people who don't vote

As The The once sang, "This is the day your life is gonna change".

Today is Primary Day here in the great state of Michigan, where we get to choose the Democratic and Republican nominees for president. Here, we don't have registered Democrats or Republicans, just come as you are to the polls with your ID.

Of course, the media has been hammering at us that it will be a race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, both they say will win Michigan. Then again, as the late Paul Harvey once put it, exit polls are the crack cocaine of politics. People will watch the news and think that the person ahead of the polls will and shall win.

But, it doesn't have to be the answer.

Now, I'll admit that I don't normally vote in primaries simply because either way, I'll vote Democrat. But in this case, it's a real, down-to-Earth Democrat (Bernie Sanders) vs. a woman who is a whore for big business (Hillary Clinton). But since the media is overrun by people who are money whores themselves, they cry that Hillary is the winner, every time.

I think many Americans really want a leader for THEM, and that's why I want Bernie Sanders to be our next Commander-in-Chief. If Hillary wins, I would imagine the massive backlash that will be received - especially from Bernie's supporters - who won't vote for her, creating a repeat of 2000. I'll admit that I didn't vote in 2000; I didn't want Repuke wannabe Joe Lieberman to be my Veep. Well, in the end, Dubya won and we all went to Hell with fake wars, 9/11 and the near-collapse of the economy.

The point is that Obama has done a near-damn good job restoring our country to what it was, though yes, there were a few shortcomings thanks to the Tea Party and the media's overpromoting of them. True, the House and Senate is now overrun by bought politicians, but Obama has shown that he can go at it alone. Now, he needs to find a Supreme Court nominee.

So please, people of Michigan, get off your asses and head to the polls. Bernie Sanders needs your help. We need a system that's for the working class and not the wealthy. We need cheaper colleges and better jobs for everybody. We need somebody who has breathed the spirit of FDR into his system and not somebody who will return America back to what it was in 2008 or worse, 1929. If Donald Trump is elected, prepare for the return of the KKK and more war.

Think of it this way: WWII started in 1941, right? Same year Bernie was born. Before it ended, FDR proposed giving Americans free healthcare, free colleges, free homes and so on. Never happened since he died in office. To me, Bernie is a continuation of FDR's dream while Hillary, well, might do a few things her husband did right in office, but that's not good enough.

So do the right thing, Michigan. Vote.

3.7.16 Bee-otches of the Day: Michael Moore haters

Bee-otched For: dissing Michael Moore and getting shat on in the process
----
Until ten years ago or so, Traverse City was a one-horse town when it came to going to the movies.

TC had two multiplexes: one was at Grand Traverse Mall and had nine screens and the other was at the dead Horizon Outlet Mall and had 10 screens. Both cinemas were erected shortly before the stadium seating boom of the mid-90s; the Horizon, as a matter of fact was cramped and uncomfortable.

Both cinemas were owned by the George Kerasotes Cinema chain - GKC - whose history in the Cherry Capital could be traced back to the 1920s when one of its ancestors, Butterfield bought out the old Lyric Theatre downtown. Butterfield sold out to GKC in 1983 and GKC was sold to Carmike in 2005.

Meanwhile that same year, local resident and filmmaker Michael Moore started the non-profit Traverse City Film Festival. Eventually, TCFF bought out an old Butterfield/GKC property. the State Theatre and started showing movies year 'round at the newly-refurbished movie house built in 1949 on the same site as the two old Lyric Theatres, which were both gutted by fires in 1923 and 1948. TCFF also bought the old Con Foster Museum and converted it into the Bijou by the Bay.

Recently, Carmike shuttered both the Mall and Horizon Cinemas and opened the new Cherry Blossom 14, which also contains an IMAX screen. Since its opening, many in TC - even Moore himself - have marveled that an actual modern cineplex would ever come to town. but it's also worth noting that some use the Cherry Blossom as an excuse to spit on Moore and the people who volunteer their time at the State and Bijou by trashing Moore and his liberal views.

But in the end, it's Moore who will be getting the last laugh.

Last week, it was announced that Carmike - which is based in Georgia and owns houses in other towns in Michigan such as Alpena, Big Rapids, Ludington, Jackson and a few others - will be sold to AMC Theatres for $1.1 billion. The deal will give AMC Carmike's nearly 3,000 screens - mostly in smaller towns like Traverse City (pop. 15.000) - bringing that chain's overall total to 8,380 screens. Since AMC mostly serves bigger cities while Carmike serves smaller towns, there will be little overlap in regard to competition, making it easier to be approved by the government to merge.

However, despite AMC standing for "American Multi Cinema" and being based in Missouri and is publicly owned, what gives Michael Moore the edge in Traverse City is the fact that AMC is controlled by a company called Wanda Group.

Wanda is based in (drumroll, please) Beijing, China. Its owner, Wang Jianlin is one of the world's weathiest men, valued at around $30 billion USD. And yes, he's a member of the Communist Party.

So yes, all those Moore haters who love the Cherry Blossom because they're not support a big fat guy who is against evil American companies will now be supporting a rich Commie from China instead. True, the theatres in nearby Elk Rapids and Suttons Bay are still American-owned by people who care a lot about their communities, but so does Moore, even if his little chain is a 501(c)3.

OK, I'll admit that I like AMC's newly-refurbished cinema here in Grand Rapids (formerly the Star). The new leather recliners rock and it gives their auditoriums a nice, intimate feel. Plus, even with the renovations, they're still cheaper than Celebration! Cinema. True, we should all support local, but since the Loeks family kiss the asses of the local elite - especially the fat moron known as "Huge" Bill Simonson - sometimes, it's kinda tough to know who the lesser of the evils is.

But in TC's case, it's sad that the right is all about supporting America, but Michael Moore IS America. I think if people understood his politics, this country would be 1000% better. However, there's a lotta stupid people out there and they should not be allowed to procreate.

No wonder why we'll probably be speaking Chinese in 30 years.

After Hillary Clinton's huge Super Tuesday wins, some are wondering if we're still feeling the Bern.

Hell, at least two popular lefty political cartoonists, Mike Peters and Clay Bennett drew some unflattering comics regarding Bernie Sanders' losses.

I remembered not long ago, CNN held a Democratic debate. The web was in awe with Sanders, claiming that he won the debate. But then CNN jumped in and claimed that Hillary won. But then again, this is said by a network whose owner, Time Warner gives millions to Clinton's campaign.

The media also has their polls, all claiming that Hillary's in the lead. OK, so why do I see so many Bernie Sanders ads on TV, especially since his campaign is entirely funded by everyday joes like you and me? I see a lot of Hillary ads, too, but let's remember who funds her: Time Warner, big media conglomerates that benefited when her hubby signed the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and bankers like Goldman Sachs.

Already, the media is telling us that it's Hillary vs. Trump. Obviously, I'll vote for Hillary, albeit grudgingly simply because I don't want a billionaire whose father gave him everything running my country.

As-is, this is more and more reminding me of 2000 when many Democrats simply didn't want Al Gore running the country because of his running mate, DINO Joe Lieberman. Because of this, many Democrats either A) didn't vote or B) voted for a third party candidateWe all knew the end result: we ended up with a cokehead asshole running the country who ignored the warning signs of 9/11, wasted trillions in fake wars and caused too many Americans to lose their jobs and homes.

I look at Donald Trump and wonder what this country would be like if he were president. He thinks that kicking out Mexicans and Muslims is the answer, but how about raising taxes on the wealthy, forcing companies to pay big if they outsourced and creating stronger unions? Oh, yeah, that's Bernie's stance! Hillary? I doubt that as long as Goldman Sachs is on her side, we will see the wealthy paying up.

Remember, Michiganders, the fire's not out yet. Feel the Bern next Tuesday.
