The Detroit Red Wings had Gordie Howe.

The Chicago Bulls had Michael Jordan.

The New York Yankees had Babe Ruth.

And the world of fake wrestling had Terry Bollea, aka Hulk Hogan.

When Howe started playing for the Hartford Whalers, the Red Wings never erased him. Jordan owns an NBA team of his own, the Charlotte Hornets, but they still love him in Chicago. Babe Ruth probably never met a hooker he never liked but he's still a Yankee legend.

So, why is the WWE now pretending that the man who fake kicked Andre the Giant's ass in front of 93,000 fans at the now-dilapidated Pontiac Silverdome never existed? Their claim is that Hogan used the n-word in a private conversation that was recorded and released to the public. Yet, it's their head honcho, Vincent Kennedy McMahon, who used that word during a sketch on a 2005 episode of Raw

Since the Hulkster's firing, many have stepped forward to support him, including George Foreman and several other WWE wrestlers, past and present. Hulk himself apologized, since the recording was made eight years ago and claims that he has changed somewhat since. He does have a point. Last week, I was blasted by those on a popular message board because of shit I said when I was in my early 20s. I'm in my mid-30s now, and have changed a lot. Yet, people still think that I'm some perpetual 23-year-old. Oh, well. I'm not the one making shit posts from mommy's basement.

Personally, I think Hulk will recover. If he'll join another wrestling promotion again like ROH or the crumbling TNA is up to him and the organization itself. Hogan was with the WWE at least thrice, each time ending on rocky roads with Vinnie Mac.

Over the years, the WWE has been known for being very un-PC with many stereotypical characters (ie The Iron Sheik and Pretty Ricky) and even a character that was used to poke fun of the mentally handicapped, Eugene. The fact that Hulk Hogan used the n-word in private shows that true, it wasn't totally right for him to do so, but sadly, top management has done worse. With the $50 million the McMahons spent on Linda's two failed attempts at running for US senator from Connecticut, even the voters have spoken. I can go on and on about the hypocrisy the WWE has pumped out over the years, but as somebody who stopped watching as the TV-PG era went into full swing, all I can say is that there's better sports to watch on TV.

Now if those Tigers can start winning....
