Earlier in the week, I awarded Michael Moore for his continued work with the Traverse City Film Festival and the fact that he donated thousands of dollars to several northern Michigan movie houses for renovations and converting to a digital format so they could continue to show Hollywood's best.
Now, it appears that one of the theatres is biting the hand that fed them.
Before the Film Festival, the Elk Rapids Cinema teamed up with the TCFF to show "Sister", which is now making the rounds at film festivals. Michael Moore himself showed up at the Cinema, giving a $5,000 check to owner Joe Yuchasz for the recent renovations to the nearly-75-year-old movie house. As a matter of fact, there's a pic of Joe and Mike together on the Cinema's Facebook page.
But now, the Cinema is biting the hand that fed them. The reason? From Friday until next Thursday, they'll be screening "America: Imagine A World Without Her", the latest film from right-winged asshole Dinesh D'Souza.
Yes, this is the same prick who made "2016: Obama's America" a few years back which was nothing but two hours of lies about our president. Yet, he doesn't care about the middle class and lives in gated communities. Oh, and he's a felon, too; he recently plead guilty to making campaign contributions in others' names. Shame.
Not surprisingly, "America" was panned by critics with a horrid 9% rating according to Rotten Tomatoes. Even worse, it's the worst movie in theatres right now according to the website.
So I ask, why, Joe, why? Some of you might even ask why I'm not giving Joe BOTD instead. Thing is, I like Joe. He managed to help save Elk Rapids from being a ghost town and even lifted the Cinema up from ruin. Elk Rapids is a Republican-leaning town, so maybe he's playing to the Repukes who felt violated that the hefty lefty's festival once again came and went for another year. But unlike Moore, D'Souza admitted to cheating on his wife and once again, is a felon.
Even more, the Cinema doesn't even play Moore's movies and avoids anything "too controversial" due to the fact that they only have one screen. But a movie made by a douchebag who might end up in jail real soon? C'mon, Joe!
Well, at least the popcorn's still good.
