Talk about bad timing.

Yesterday, I wrote this letter to Howard Stern about why I'm planning to dump Sirius later this month. I pointed out how I'm pissed about how the show's going with the abrupt political correctness and why they're only doing three shows per week.

One concern for me that I didn't touch on was the fact that Robin Quivers wasn't in the studio in the longest time. I knew that she had a grapefruit-sized tumor removed from her bladder, but the problem was that she was gone from the studio for the longest time. She had been doing her part of the show from her Manhattan apartment via ISDN lines.

Well, now we know. Robin had been fighting cancer.

Howard's long-time sidekick finally revealed yesterday that she had been fighting the disease for the past year, but is now mostly cured. She had been receiving radiation treatment which caused her to lose all of her hair. Because of the size of the tumor, she also was forced to use colostomy bags.

Quivers seemed to be the poster child of good health for the Stern crowd, even writing a book on her veganism called The Vegucation of Robin, which features 90 recipes that she claims are good for you.

When her cancer diagnosis was revealed, Howard and Robin mutually agreed to keep it a secret because they didn't want people to bug her about what to do with her life. It's also worth noting that Robin is an atheist and, well, question was, did anybody pray for her? Things that make you go hmmmmm.....

As somebody who family on both sides to cancer, I'm proud that Robin won her battle against the disease. The Stern Show would never be the same without her. How ironic that Robin revealed her cancer battle just two days before 9/11, in which many Stern fans say that the broadcast from that day in 2001 was the saddest show ever aired.

It's also proof that even people who work their damndest to keep healthy can get cancer, too. It can happen to anybody. Maybe it's why it's best for all people to see their doctors once per year. In recent years, I've taken big measures to keep healthy, and yearly visits to the doc does help a lot.

And once again, FUCK CANCER!
