Pretty soon, this very country we're in could be in the hands of China.

And if it does, it's because we fucked ourselves over.

In three weeks, our nation's debt will hit the ceiling, and we don't have the money that we owe. Now, President Obama is working with House Republicans for a compromise that could save this country from severe bankruptcy.

Of course, the House has to have it their way: keep taxes low for the wealthy and cut spending for Medicare and Social Security, causing both to raise their entrance age to 67 from 65. But yes, Obama and the Democrats want the wealthy to pay more. As a matter of fact, if he can raise taxes for the hedge fund managers, our budget would gain $4 billion.

But, since the House has had the most Republicans in decades, Obama might end up having to kiss their ass once again like he did when he was forced to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. If Obama bows to the Republicans, he'll alienate his most-liberal fans like Al Gore did when he chose Joe Lieberman to be his running mate in 2000. One reason why Bush (kinda) won the 2000 election was because many of Gore's alienated went independent while the conservatives stayed true to Bush.

And yes, we know the rest of the story: Bush squandered the surplus Clinton created and threw it back to the wealthy. The great economy that Clinton helped to create was destroyed thanks to low taxes for the wealthy and less distribution, causing the utter economic collapse of 2008.

And oh yes, three wars. But hey, we caught Osama!... Under Obama's watch.

The tragedy is that the Republicans want a repeat of 2000 regarding Obama. They want him to slash benefits for the working class so they can get what they want. Once again, many of the folks who supported him in 2008 would go with someone like Nader and Michele Bachmann would become the first female president, making things worse for all Americans. Maybe since she looks like a witch, she'll reincarnate Osama from the Ocean so Al Quida can fly their planes into the Empire State Building! Since they're in the same boat religiously, maybe she can convince Erik Prince to come back to Blackwater/Xe so they can dust off sand niggers together and waste taxpayer bucks on that! MUAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!

Look, humor aside, it's time for the nation's wealthy to wake the fuck up. A decade ago, if you had $400 million, you were one of the wealthiest people in the country. Now, Forbes would pass you by in a heartbeat. Hell, if you just passed the $1 billion mark in your fortune, you're still squeaking by. It's proof that the tax cuts the Republicans have created have done nothing but create more poor folks. Our unemployment rate's still 9%, and it's higher thinking about those who no longer collect benefits or even are underemployed, like if you have two college degrees and flipping burgers for a living.

Folks, let's get our heads away from El Rushbo and Lonesome Rhodes Beck and the probably-soon-to-be-defunct Fox News Channel and get back into the basics. 50 years ago, if you were a millionaire, you paid a 90% tax rate. Now, even BILLIONAIRES barely pay taxes. Look at GE: they made $6 billion in American last year alone and not one dime went into taxes. They even moved some of their NBCUniversal shows to Connecticut - their home state - as part of a tax deal.

If our government can't pay its bills, it's because this saying will forever hold true: United We Stand, Divided We Fall.
