This week, we here in Grand Rapids might be paying dearly for gas.

Right now - as of Monday morning just after 4 a.m. - gas prices here in Grand Rapids range from $3.72 up to $3.89, depending on your area of town. But sometime this week, it might go past $4 per gallon.

Why? Well, it's not really because of the war in Libya or unrest overseas, it's because the speculators say so.
That's right! Last night, I was watching good 'ol WOOD-TV 8 news at 6 p.m. and the reporters were lovingly inserting fear into the hearts of their viewers: gas up your vehicle now or else you'll be paying $4 per gallon for gas later on this week.

So, in other words, here we go again.

We all remember the last time gas went over that magical amount: it was 2008 and the end result was one of the biggest economical collapses of all time. Because many Americans were being forced to pay up the asshole in gas, they couldn't buy much of anything, and it even hurt the sales of everything else. End result: the great economic collapse of 2008 and ExxonMobil reporting the best profits in their whole history. But, hey! We ended up with a president that wasn't Bush in the White House!

Sadly, however, Obama seems to be mum about stopping the speculators, but then again, starting next year, we'll be driving in Volts and Leafs that will partially eliminate the need to fill up. True, the Volt will get 93 MPG, but will it help our nation's gas prices shrink? Even with big sales expected for these vehicles, I mostly doubt it.

Folks, only get gas WHEN YOU NEED IT! Personally, I try to get gas only during designated times when I'm not paying bills or if the needle's on E. When everybody buys gas all at once, demand will start to overthrow supply and causes prices to skyrocket, meaning big profits for big oil.

I think that Obama needs to step up his game more. Not only does he need to stop the madness regarding gas prices going up, but it wouldn't hurt to help the unions in Wisconsin and Michigan, too. But, it's too late since those states' idiot governors did their damage. But back to gas, remember folks that it's almost been one year since the BP oil spill, and that company is quietly getting its money back.

But, like I said a few weeks ago, if the government put its focus on alternative energy 30 years ago, this shit wouldn't be happening.
